Abstract
With increased penetration of wind power into electrical grids, doubly-fed induction generators (DFIGs) are largely deployed as the electric generator for wind energy conversion systems (WECSs) to their robustness and easy controllability. In this paper, the authors report on the development of a model of a grid-connected DFIG-based WECS for studying its dynamic behaviour during grid disturbance. This model includes aerodynamics, the mechanical drive train, the DFIG and the controller. DFIG model is based on the stationary reference frame and the controller model is based on the line-voltage oriented reference frame. It is observed that the generator-side controller provides good decoupling between active and reactive power.
