Abstract
‣ ROADMs have seen widespread deployments in long-haul and metro DWDM networks ‣ Multiple technology options and node configurations lower network cost and increase flexibility ‣ DWDM network design must account for transmission impairments introduced by each ROADM type ‣ 40G transmission through large number of network nodes ‣ Significant improvements in optical specifications of Nx1 WSS ‣ Improved understanding of system performance ‣ ROADM technologies offer new features which benefit 40G/100G with full flexibility in wavelength routing ‣ Control Plane technologies have adapted to incorporate capabilities of and constraints imposed by ROADM elements
