Abstract :
The following systems are discussed from the point of view of the utilisation of ultrasound velocity scanning to understand the behaviour of concentrated colloidal systems: the sedimentation behaviour of well defined monodisperse silica latex particles in a non-aqueous continuous phase, where long range repulsive interactions result in ordering in the sediment and formation of a colloidal crystal state; and the sedimentation and consolidation behaviour of a concentrated industrial suspension of organic particulates in both the stable and the flocculated state
