Abstract :
Summary form only given. Nonlinear dynamics in optical waveguide arrays (OWAs) (Somekh et al, 1973) has attracted considerable attention over the last few years (Christodoulides and Joseph, 1988; Eisenberg et al, 1998). Various interesting nonlinear properties identified originate basically from peculiarities (or anomalies) of light propagation in linear discrete systems. Since diffraction is the primary linear process that, for example, controls the propagation of a finite beam, we focus on the study of diffraction peculiarities in OWAs.
