Abstract
This paper describes the design of a compact dual band microstrip antenna based on complementary split ring resonators (CSRRs). It operates in the GSM 1.8 GHz and WiMAX 3.5 GHz band. The antenna has a very compact dimension of 20×20×0.8 mm3. It covers a -10dB impedance bandwidth of (1.8-1.9) GHz and (3.4-3.6) GHz. The proposed antenna geometry is evolved from a hexagonal microstrip patch antenna. Circular SRRs etched on the patch and the ground accounted for upper 3.5 GHz and lower 1.8 GHZ resonant frequencies respectively. The antenna has uniform radiation pattern along all directions and a peak gain of 1.07dBi at 3.5 GHz.
