Abstract
The decision to implement digital filters as ASICs has generally been made on the basis of either cost or power. However, size and performance are equally adequate reasons for implementing digital filters as ASICs. Since the filter characteristics and the required response is known and able to be defined, the development of an ASIC does not pose any significant specification risks. This paper discusses three digital filter projects, for which the decision to use ASICs has been successful, and presents the technological and commercial value for each of them. In addition, each of the filters were implemented using discrete components and these circuits used for comparison
