Abstract
➢ Overview was given on MMF applications, standards and MMF characterization ➢ Reach, speed and capacity extension techniques were reviewed and discussed GI-MMF-Systems ➢ 40 Gb/s and 100 Gb/s line rates will be realized by space division multiplexing ➢ Lasers, fibers and receivers show up for 40 Gb/s serial systems for more than 400 m transmission distance on a single wavelength ➢ WDM, OFDM and SCM can contribute to extend capacity times distance product to reach several Tb/s·km ➢ Main advantage of high coupling tolerances must be maintained! POF-Systems ➢ 40 Gb/s transmission over 100 m GI-POF and GI-PF-POF is feasible ➢ Higher order modulation formats, WDM, OFDM, SCM and electronic equalization techniques are applied to increase capacity times distance product
