Abstract :
Ceramics insulators are widely used in power transmission as well as distribution lines. It is reported that there are many failure of ceramics insulators especially in polluted areas. One method to improve the performance of the insulators is applying silicone compound coating on the insulators. This paper reports the experimental results on the coating of silicone compound on the ceramics insulators under various climate conditions. The results showed that the coating improved the insulator hydrophobicity as well as the flashover voltage. The suppression of leakage current and harmonic components by the silicone coating is also discussed.
