Abstract :
The authors present the idea of using direct modulation of the laser for generating microwave signals for hybrid radio/fiber systems. The external light injection is used in order to increase the modulation bandwidth of the laser and at the same time to improve the overall system operation. The experiments show a 14 dB enhancement in performance of the system used for distributing a 155 Mb/s data signal on an 18 GHz carrier
