Abstract :
The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award is described. It was created to encourage quality improvement throughout the United States. In the three years since its inception it has become the de facto standard for quality excellence. The goals of the award, the application process, the award criteria, the award winners, and the 1990 IEEE conference on challenging the quality awards are described.<>
