Abstract
Validation of magnetic resonance image segmentations is an important but difficult problem. A graphical user interface for manual labeling of an MR image data set is described. Results obtained on a normal volunteer indicate that MR intensity distributions may be multi modal, contrary to implicit assumptions for many segmentation methods. Results obtained with a commercial segmentation work station on tumor volumes are consistent with the manual volumes, taking into account the operator dependency of the commercial system. The described GUI may provide the much needed ground truth for MR image segmentation
