Abstract :
Integrating games into learning process can be summarized into three approaches: (1) Using multimedia technologies to content presentation for edutainment purpose, (2) repurposing commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) games to assisting in learning for educational purpose, and (3) a hybrid way to design specific games that seeks a balance between fun and educational content. In this paper, we propose a compromised platform which enables instructors to create a learning game by an authoring tool. The reason is that many learning games developed for specific curriculums are time-consuming and high-cost. Additionally, instructors may be unfamiliar or have no experience with game design and programming. Therefore, the developed system, Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game-based Learning System, consists of three major components: game editor, learning content management component and game rendering engine, which can provide instructors to create different games for multiple curriculums.
