Abstract :
Concurrent and independent quadrature and polar modulation is proposed and first demonstrated in this paper. With this concurrent modulation the polar modulation can correct for errors in the quadrature modulator, or vice versa. Multi-mode modulation is also readily achieved, allowing independent and parallel baseband operations for quadrature or polar signals. More importantly, in phased arrays or smart antennas the array control (polar coordinates) is separated from the signal modulation (quadrature I and Q) to provide independence of these operations.
