  • Abstract
Data heterogeneity, which manifests itself in multiple tiers of the biological information base, is a major barrier to progress in the fundamental understanding of biological processes. Biologists possess no unified search mechanism that can facilitate the discovery of genes, proteins, and pathways. A first step toward designing such a mechanism is proposed and its general requirements outlined.
