Abstract
The nonlinear theory of photorefractive materials is used to analyze beam fanning, two-wave coupling and subharmonic generation. Novel applications based on the nonlinear behavior, e.g. characterization of photorefractive materials, optical limiters, phase conjugation and edge detection, are discussed
