Abstract
This paper shows new induction generation system for wind power generation. This system has the voltage source converter excited induction generator and the PFC converter to transfer the real power. The experimental results certified that the dc/dc chopper control of the PFC converter can minimize the voltage source converter current, which only supplies exciting current for the induction generator. It is also shown that the output current from the voltage source converter is suppressed by the proper selection of the reactive power compensation capacitor. This paper presents the required condition to minimize the power loss in the IG at first. Secondly, dividing the compensating capacitance into 2 or 3 capacitors is investigated to minimize the ac current output from the VSC for decreasing the loss in the VSC and the ac reactor. The simulation and the experiments certified the effectiveness.
