Abstract :
This paper presents a novel modelling method for grid-connected DFIG wind turbine and related robust PSS performance study. Linear Matrices Inequality (LMI) based H2/H output feedback controller design approach is applied for power system stabilizers (PSSs) design. Unlike conventional PSS, the robust PSS has better performance and damping ability to different types of generators. Oscillations caused by different kinds of wind speed disturbances are analysed by comparisons between the performances of the DFIG wind turbine installed with and without PSS. The simulations and experiments are evaluated on a benchmark single machine infinite bus (SMIB) grid-connected DFIG wind turbine. The performance of robust PSS is not as effective as it is for synchronous generators because of the strong self-damping ability of grid-connected DFIG wind turbines.
