Abstract :
It is now recognized that the internal energy of insulating materials is greatly affected by the presence of trapped charges. In particular this feature was recently analysed from Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) measurements on polymers charged with the electron beam of a SEM. Trapped charges injected at room temperature produce a structural transformation in their immediate surrounding and a strong polarization of the whole sample. To complete this study the behaviour of the heat capacity of the material is investigated, after the injection of electrons, by studying its time evolution at room temperature. The results concern low density polyethylene after implantation of 30 keV energy electrons at variable dose corresponding to n trapped charges
