Abstract
Fuzzy controllers have been applied to wide variety of situations. One area that is being considered for the implementation of fuzzy controllers is the control of power systems. Since power systems are quite complex and often hard to accurately model, they seem suited for the use of fuzzy controllers. This application demonstrates the design of a fuzzy controller to be used to regulate the reactive power generation of a salient-pole synchronous machine. As the real power output of the generator is adjusted to meet the load, the exciter setting is adjusted accordingly by the fuzzy controller to maintain the amount of reactive power being supplied by the generator. Computer simulations were used to test the response of the fuzzy controller to step changes in load. The fuzzy controller produced good results in each case
