Abstract :
Fiber distributed data interface-II (FDDI-II) is a high speed LAN for integrated services applications, supporting isochronous, synchronous, and asynchronous traffic. The performance of FDDI-II in handling multiple classes of traffic is examined. The network can be tuned to meet the requirements of isochronous, synchronous, and asychronous traffic using the wideband channels (WBCs), synchronous allocation, and the target token rotation time. Conditions for providing a guaranteed bandwidth for asynchronous traffic while meeting the requirements of isochronous and synchronous classes are presented. Simulation results are used to evaluate the proposed bandwidth allocation method
