Abstract :
The author has been a `home worker´ for more than two years in the professional communications field. To date, on balance, home working for her has been a positive experience and she certainly doesn´t regret not having to drive to and from an office each day. However, there are potential problems with using your home as your work base, the full implications of which have not been fully thought through, even by some of those who view home working as an excellent idea. The author has selected three topics to explore: self sufficiency; trusting people; self discipline. As far as the author´s circumstances are concerned, she believes she made the right decision by abandoning the office and she is delighted at the support (both financial and personal) have received from her employers, The Kudos Partnership Limited. She has learnt to cope with the expected (and unexpected) challenges of being a home worker, and is thrilled at the feeling of freedom to control her own life. Many of her colleagues have brought up families, earned second degrees and renovated ancient properties whilst still managing to tackle demanding, full time home based jobs in their `spare´ time
