Abstract :
This paper compares the methods that have been used to control frequency in the recently deregulated power system in Sri Lanka with the highly deregulated power system in Great Britain. Also it presents the proposed methods found from a literature survey that use demand side support for frequency control. It also emphasises the need of commercial and demand side arrangements in frequency control in order to safe guard the assets of a public utility and also to ensure cost effective operation of future Sri Lankan power system.
