Abstract :
This paper presents a method to design a robust dynamic compensator for reactive power modulation to improve the dynamic performance of an AC/DC power system. The robust dynamic compensator is designed using closed-loop eigenvalue sensitivity with respect to load characteristic. Eigenvalue analysis and simulation results show that a dynamic compensator designed using a constant impedance load model may lead to system instability at constant active power load. However, a robust dynamic compensator improves the system response over a wide range of load characteristics
