Abstract :
This paper proposes a high efficiency loss-less coding method with three-dimensional wavelet transform for reconstructed volumetric medical images. The method resolves storage cost problem caused by large amounts of volumetric data reconstructed by CT and MRI in imaging system in hospitals. This method achieves high coding efficiency using three-dimensional wavelet transform, a slipping method for unnecessary data and an adaptive entropy coding with Golomb-Rice coder. This method also achieves prompt transmission and high-speed display of volumetric data. In this paper the coding efficiency, transmission performance and decoded image quality of intermediate stages are also evaluated. As a result, the validity of the method is confirmed.
