Abstract :
In this paper, we propose a low cost wireless multimedia player based on the IEEE 802.11b wireless protocol. By using this wireless protocol, the multimedia streams are transmitted from a server over the Ethernet to an AP (access point). Moreover, every player can receive signals in the wireless environment. According to the open source feature, the budgets of the software development tools in drivers, OS kernel, GUI interface, audio/video output library, and application programs are free. Furthermore, we sift the hardware components from general multi-function devices. By taking these advantages, the cost could be greatly reduced.
