Abstract
An iterative receiver with a list sphere detector (LSD) and a parallel interference canceller (PIC) for MIMO-BICM systems is considered. The convergence behavior of the iterative detection and decoding schemes are analyzed via variance transfer (VTR) functions. For slow fading channels, we propose a detection switching (DSW) approach for the iterative receiver which employs an LSD with a reduced list size for the first few iterations and a PIC for the subsequent iterations, while the switching criterion is based on the cross entropy of the decoding information. By applying the DSW, we show that the near-capacity performance can be approached with a significantly reduced complexity
