Abstract :
Transmission systems operating at 10 Gb/s on a single fiber are becoming a common solution for high speed digital networks. Implementation of such networks in metropolitan areas typically requires short reach (up to 20 km), low cost links capable of operating at 10 Gb/s. A G10 receiver module has been developed as a lower cost, simpler, easier to manufacture version of Nortel´s OC-192 Receiver Module and should allow cost effective implementation of short reach as well as interconnect high speed links. The G10 receiver module combines Nortel´s high speed PIN diode and HBT based broadband preamp IC, packaged in an 8-pin module. The new module performs almost as well as a standard OC-192 receiver but it is smaller and costs less
