Abstract :
Advances in hardware development enable the creation of tiny and inexpensive sensor network devices which are widely disseminated in our daily life, and take a significant role in developing ubiquitous sensor networks (USNs). As the architecture of the sensor networks becomes to rely on the applications more heavily, we believe that it is considerably important to come up with USN middleware which provides functions common to different types of USN applications and services. In this paper, we analyze the USN middleware architecture and three USN service use cases described in the ITU-T F.744 recommendation, and suggest the fundamental functions and interfaces for the ITU-T USN middleware components.
