  • Abstract
A modeling and computational tool (MACT) is presented to support the development of new distributed transaction processing systems (TPSs) and the migration of existing TPSs to distributed environments. The distributed control and coordination method of MACT relies on existing and widely-accepted network and operating system standards. MACT design is based on object-orientation and real-time control and is implemented using Prolog and C. It is anticipated that the tool will provide practical and significant benefits to operators and maintainers of large-scale TPSs. The purpose of this paper is twofold: first, to provide a conceptual model of, and an architecture for, an integrated software tool supporting the construction and management of distributed TPS applications; and second, to demonstrate through an operational prototype (proof of the concept) implementation that the construction of such an environment is feasible and practical
