Abstract
The author discusses how safety-critical software projects can be organized to enhance safety. He reviews current software safety practices, examines management´s roles, and identifies the areas that must be improved. The premise is based on the thesis that more significant and immediate software safety improvement on current safety-critical projects can be accomplished by addressing the management aspect of software safety rather than the technical aspect. A management hierarchy as recommended in the UK Interim Defense Standard 00-55 (1989) is discussed
