  • Abstract
Since 1985 at Setif University, Algeria, the author has initiated and worked on a project which was aimed at the development of a CACSD System. The results of the CASCIDA project (Computer Aided Systems Control for Interactive Design and Analysis) are briefly described. More importantly and over the years, this project laid down the basis for, and the nurturing of, a whole intellectual environment by trying to bridge the gap between several fields and paradigms not necessarily stemming from main-stream-CACSD such as expert systems and advanced statistical techniques. This paper, while raising some of the issues as related to the developed packages described, also draws the attention to interactions between the components of this novel intellectual environment. Work is now carried out between Setif University and Universite-Pierre-et-Marie-Curie Paris-6, Laboratoire d´lnformatique Fondamentale, Paris, France, where artificial intelligence methodologies are being investigated in conjunction with the development of a new generation of CACSD. Special reference is given to the interface between expert systems and adaptive control of robotic manipulators
