Abstract
In this paper, based on an adaptive antenna and the idea of an SDMA (space division multiple access) method, a downlink optimal radiation pattern design of smart antennas is developed by the authors. An antenna array can be used to make a smart antenna. The smart antenna can offer several users in it co-channels at the same time so that the capacity of communication can be increased. In this paper, the downlink radiation pattern formula available for optimum searching has been deduced. The weight vector of the optimal radiation pattern is derived by a genetic algorithm approach. The downlink optimal radiation pattern of a smart antenna possessing SDMA ability has been achieved via computer simulation.
