Abstract
This paper presents a design and characteristics analysis of novel 2-phase 4/3 switched reluctance motor (SRM) for air blower application. The rotor of the proposed motor uses a non-uniform air gap to overcome the torque dead-zone that exists in the 2-phase motor type. The 4/3 SRM uses novel structure with the short flux path technique that can reduces the core losses while increasing the efficiency. The proposed motor can rotate only one direction. This motor type is suitable for unidirectional rotation applications as air blowers.
