Abstract :
In this paper, we propose a new intelligent hybrid type-II ARQ/FEC logical link control (LLC) protocol for GSM mobile communication system. The aim of this new protocol is to allow a reliable transmission of short data messages with a good utilization ratio of the GSM radio channel. For that purpose, a concatenated coding technique is used so as to reduce the frequency of LLC-PDU retransmissions. State automatas implemented in both end-stations allow the transmitter and the receiver to react intelligently to several error scenarios. An analytical model of our protocol is derived using signal flow-graphs theory. Numerical applications are carried out to evaluate the efficiency of this new protocol
