Abstract :
A novel compact antenna design that covers most the LTE-Advanced bands is proposed. The antenna, which comprises a thin, etched metal layer, can be patched to the notebook computer hinge. The bended radiator has a small antenna volume and uses the notebook hinge as its support. Two operation bands are available. The lower band covers 698 to 860 MHz and the higher band extends from 1710 to 2690 MHz. Several band broadening and antenna miniaturizing techniques were employed, including the use of parasitic elements, meandered structures, branched structures and a lump element. Simulations and measurements were conducted to verify that the antenna, which is surrounded by metal sheets emulating notebook display and keyboard panels, can function properly. Desirable performance features such as reasonable radiation efficiency, good impedance matching, and omni-directional coverage were observed.
