Abstract :
According to the development of new services on the telecommunication networks, the digital exchange systems are supporting the intelligent network calls and mobile calls as well as POTS (plain old telephone service). In this paper, a simple enhanced overload control mechanism is proposed for a digital exchange system supporting various kinds of services. The proposed mechanism can safely keep up the main call processor on a pre-specified level of processor occupancy by classifying the incoming calls as POTS, intelligent network calls, or mobile calls and applying the different restriction rates on the different types of calls. This mechanism can be simply implemented cooperating with the CDC (call density control) applied for network traffic control. The results of simulation show that the proposed mechanism maintains the call processor utilization under the various kinds of over load situations and works better than the existing overload control mechanisms
