Westinghouse Calibrated RF Digital Communications Signal Generator and Channel Emulator

Westinghouse is currently under contract to design and produce the Mobile Satellite System (MSS) Ground Segment and Satellite Mobile Terminal (MT) for the American Mobile Satellite Corporation (AMSC) and Telesat Mobile Inc. (TMI) of Canada. To allow for the development and testing of the Mobile Terminal product, Westinghouse has developed the Calibrated RF Digital Communications Signal Generator and Channel Emulator (CRSG). The CRSG comprises state-of-the-art test equipment and custom Westinghouse designed software/hardware that have been integrated into a single RF satellite signal generation platform. This signal generator provides a programmable digitally modulated RF signal, that incorporates user-defined calibrated satellite channel impairments such as Rician fading, Gaussian noise and doppler. The CRSG shall continue to be used for MT receiver performance tests and will finally transition into the factory test environment.
