Abstract :
Design of a simple compact printed microstrip fed U-shaped monopole antenna for the wireless and radio frequency identification (RFID) is presented. The antenna has two different resonant paths (forming a U-shaped structure), supports two resonances around 1.84 GHz and 5.82 GHz, which are reserved for GSM 1800/PCS and RFID applications respectively. Effectively consistent radiation pattern and large impedance bandwidth has been observed. Impedance bandwidth for -10 dB return loss in the 1.84 GHz and 5.82 GHz center frequency reaches 0.84 GHz (1.53 GHz to 2.37 GHz) and 0.73 GHz (5.47 GHz to 6.20 GHz) respectively.
