Abstract
During last ten years there has been a growing interest in the development of graded index plastic optical fibers (GIPOFs) which have potential to provide an alternative solution for various data-link applications such as local area networks and optical sensors. Some practical and theoretical aspects of GIPOFs technology are considered in this paper in an attempt to determine directions of future research efforts in the GIPOFs development
