Abstract :
The author describes the KSR 1 system software and its role in bringing the benefits of programmability and scalability to the user. The system software consists of KSR OS, a UNIX compatible operating system, the preprocessors and compilers that comprise the language system, and the parallel programming tools that provide analysis and synthesis support to the parallel programmer.<>
