Abstract :
The purpose of this study is to make three-dimensional radiation pattern measurements of a handset diversity antenna, which comprises a retractable whip antenna and a built-in planar inverted F antenna (PIFA), in the vicinity of a human operator in a PDA situation at 900 MHz. To this end, we have developed a high-precision human phantom with a very realistic shape that represents a man holding a handheld terminal in a PDA position. From the measured results, the mechanisms for the variations in the characteristics with respect to the antenna-human body geometrical relationship are considered.
