Abstract :
This paper presents a high power factor electronic ballast to drive a 110 W fluorescent lamp. The proposed ballast is based on a single power processing stage formed by a half bridge converter. High power factor is obtained by a nonconventional boost converter operating at critical conduction mode. The fluorescent lamp is driven by a self-oscillation series-parallel resonant converter operating above the resonant frequency to provide zero voltage switching. Experimental results have been obtained for a 110 W fluorescent lamp operating at 50 kHz switching frequency and 220 V line voltage
