Abstract :
This paper describes an approach for the automatic reconstruction of three-dimensional (3D) solid models from two-dimensional (2D) engineering drawings. The main features of the algorithm are to improve the speed of the reconstruction process and to generate a sequence of solutions. The research proposes an approach, which is a hybrid of the boundary representation (B-rep) and constructive solid geometry (CSG) methods for reconstruction of engineering drawings. First, the research utilized the advantages of the B-rep approach to construct a semi-wireframe of solid models. Then the CSG approach has been used for creating and composing the candidate solid models afterwards. A new notion of a "semi-wireframe" was presented in the reconstruction method. It reduced the processing time and simplified the reconstruction procedure. Several examples from a working implementation are given to demonstrate the efficiency and capability of the proposed algorithm.
