Developments and prospects for cable modems

This paper outlines the evolution of cable modems and the services they will enable cable TV operators to provide. The capabilities and limitations of current cable modems is described as well as the technical possibilities for improving the network to serve much larger numbers of subscribers and for building modems of much higher data rate. The likely evolution of services carried is also considered starting from trials of currently available cable modems
