Title :
Time and industrial local area networks
Author_Institution :

Abstract :
Time aspects of industrial local area networks are analyzed. Research on and the verification of an architecture satisfying time constraints are discussed. The concept of communication transactions associated with different cooperation models is introduced. These are client/server, client/multiserver, multiclient/multiserver, and producer/distributor/consumer. The architecture of time-critical communication systems is analyzed, with emphasis on the necessity of explicit time management by services and protocols under the control of the end user
