Abstract :
A visual substitute system is described. The image of a diagram obtained by a camera is analyzed to extract information using a personal computer. Spatially coarse information is presented on a tactile display that has a digitizing function, and fine information corresponding to a location pointed out by a user on a display is output by a speech synthesizer. It is reported that a blind person can easily recognize a complex diagram by integrating both types of information, obtained by interactive operation with the system
