Abstract
A new load-pull measurement technique based on the HP 71500A transition analyzer has been developed. The new technique uses in-situ calibration and large-signal verification to improve measurement accuracy. Compared to conventional network-analyzer-based techniques, the present technique yields more detailed information, including both the magnitudes and phases of harmonic output voltages and currents, hence better insight into the output characteristics of the device under test. In addition, because the transition analyzer is a time-domain instrument, the present technique can be readily modified for pulsed measurement of output transients which are critical to the characterization of digitally modulated broadband telecommunication components.
