Abstract :
This paper presents an integrated tactile-visual display and motion system for aeronautic and terrestrial navigation. The system is consisted of a motion platform capable of six degrees-of-freedom motion, associated flight control accessories for the rotary wing, flight simulation software, and a tactile vest. A subject is required to wear the tactile vest which provides direction, position and velocity signals to assist in maneuvering the motion platform in the desired direction. The system is synchronously controlled by integrated software. The current system provides the capability to study the interaction of multi-sensory inputs into orientation and navigation. It has relevance for both air and land applications.
