Abstract
A 30 cm × 37 cm dual-band (Tx: 28.4 GHz, Rx: 19.2 GHz) microstrip planar antenna has been developed for a suitcase satellite Personal Communications terminal. Antenna measurements have been performed in the laboratory, in a far-field range, rooftop range, over the Olympus satellite (gain) and in a spherical near-field range (complete characterization). The design goal for the antenna was to achieve a minimum Tx gain of 34.7 dBi and Rx gain of 33.3 dBi over 1 GHz of bandwidth. The problems encountered in measuring this relatively large antenna (30 λ) and the results are presented
