Abstract :
The paper presents a novel multilevel PWM strategy that employs a split section reference waveform with phase-shifted carriers to produce harmonically superior PWM signals. The multilevel PWM switching patterns provide a higher dynamic range than what has been reported in the literature. The key difference of this method is that it maintains a fixed modulation depth for each section. MatLab simulations have been carried out to compare the new method against SH-SPWM technique. The simulation results have been validated through an experimental prototype. The harmonic cancellation properties of the new modulation are under study.
